Art Making/ Material Exploration

1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel.
* Creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel was a great experience. The process brought me back to my childhood and made me feel like a kid again. It was interesting because I found myself very engaged in the projects, making sure every detail was as flawless as it can be. My favorite part was mixing the colors on the Color Wheel. These two projects were fairly simple and not time consuming at all.
2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?
* I enjoyed working with the paint. Although, I love to draw and creating lines was satisfying in itself, I had a great time using the different colors to learn about how primary and secondary colors work together. I liked watching the colors change as I mixed with my brush.
3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?
* The most important discovery I made in the creation of these studies was how careful and patient I had to be while doing them. Taking measurements and making sure the pencil lead did not smudge was very important while creating the Value Scale. While creating the Color Wheel, it was crucial to mix the right colors (and clean the paint brush) and leave enough space between the mixture to show the correct combinations.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
* The most important information that I learned from the video on creating a value scale is how to properly sharpen the pencil. The video shows that using a knife or a box cutter to sharpen the pencil is more beneficial when shading in the values. The video also notes that special paper named vellum shows the different values more clearly because the texture of the paper is bumpy. The most important information that I learned from the video on creating the color wheel is that primary colors include cyan, magenta, and yellow and that they produce secondary colors which are red, green, and blue that combine to make black.

Color Theory and Emotional Effect

1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.
* Color is defined as the aspect of the appearance of objects and light sources that are described in terms of hue, lightness, and saturation for objects. It's effects on emotions include heightened awareness of certain feelings such as yellow and happiness, red is known for increasing appetite, and blue is supposed to be a clam and relaxing color.

2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why?
* A theoretical aspect of color that is most intriguing to me is the way color looks when light hits it. When looking at a picture, I am always interested in how bright the colors look, especially when light is shining on it. I like bright bold colors like yellows, pinks, and oranges. The woman, June, from the "Colors" video kept referencing how light sources inspires her to try different colors in her art work; especially reflections from the sun over water as seen in Venice.

3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?
* In the Color video, when June was creating her painting she spoke about how she has to use colors that work for her. She mentioned not liking the red and blue in her painting and she struggled with accepting how it looked and she had a love/hate relationship with the painting. That showed me that colors really do have an impact on how people perceive things. When people refer to things as unflattering or flattering it is because they dislike or like color schemes.

4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?
* In the Feelings video, of course the Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo DaVinci left an impact on me in regards to color and emotions. I believe the emotion on her face (with her smiling) made me feel amused and it expressed individuality and femininity. The colors also left an impact on how I felt looking at it because they were secondary colors and cool colors, which leave a calm feeling.

Artistic Perspectives by Frazier

This blog is intended for educational purposes but will be a fun and enjoyable blog! The process for setting up Gmail and the Blogger accounts were very simple and straightforward. I expect to learn tons of information and view lots of art work. I want to be able to make deeper connections when viewing artwork and even reading about it. I enjoy all aspects of the arts (music, design, theater, etc) and I hope to come out the course able to explain to others the importance of learning, understanding and respecting the arts in our society. In regards to taking an online course, I am completely comfortable and I enjoy doing work online through modules, discussion forums and online quizzes.
